SINCE 1968
St. Joseph's Primary School
Using a set of theme-based textbooks as well as school-based learning and teaching materials, English teachers guide students in developing a solid foundation in vocabulary and grammar as well as reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.
The curriculum introduces students to both knowledge highly relevant to their daily lives as well as knowledge about different countries around the world, preparing them to become global citizens in the future.
The curriculum exposes students to a variety of texts by authors like Roald Dahl, Michael Morpurgo and Judy Blume, and movie appreciation such as BFG, Zootopia and Ratatouille. Students will learn different reading strategies like making predictions, reading between the lines, locating specific information and activating their schemata to decipher meaning from the story.
Through class activities and assignments, students’ verbal and written communication skills will be strengthened. Also, they will learn to think and feel from the perspective of the characters in the story, thus cultivating empathy and compassion for other people. Moreover, through discussions, students can hone their critical thinking skills, as well as other generic skills such as having good moral values and respect for others. Finally, students will learn to be creative and imaginative through open-ended tasks and activities related to the books or movies.
Our NET lessons create an immersive, authentic language environment designed to boost oral fluency and communicative confidence across all levels.
Through fun and engaging activities, the NET motivates students in developing an interest in learning English as well as building their confidence and competence in English communication.
